अत छबीली नार चली कर सिंगार
काहूकी अखियाँ रसीली भायी
या विध सुंदरवा अकुलाई
चली जाट सब सखियाँ साथ.
It is interesting and instructive to see the difference in the singing styles of
Hirābai Barodekar (1905 – 1989)
Gangubai Hangal (1913 – 2009)
and Hirabai's aunt:
Roshanara Begum (1917- 1982)
especially with reference to those they learnt from, or for that matter with those like
Bhimsen Joshi (1922-2011),
the most celebrated of the Kirana gaayaks from the later part of the 20th c.
