Have you ever called a business and navigated their phone menu by speaking with an automated assistant? If so, then you’ve experienced Interactive Voice Response, also known as IVR.
An Interactive Voice Response System is similar to an auto-attendant, however, instead of pressing numbers on your dial pad, you simply speak to the automated assistant. From there, you’ll be routed to the right department so a human rep can answer your questions.
Advanced IVR systems use artificial intelligence (AI) to understand a customer’s issue before connecting them with a customer service rep. This way, reps have even more context before the call is transferred.
Because of how intuitive IVR is, it has emerged as a solution for businesses with limited customer support bandwidth.
