Alba Iulia is an age-old city in Transylvania, Romania. It has been around since Roman times, and probably before that already as well, during the ancient Dacian rule of the region.
During the medieval ages, it was frequently run by another mighty king, such as the Hungarians and then the Austrians. The Habsburg emperor eventually built the star-shaped bastion, which can be seen from the sky.
Alba Iulia was where Transylvania was officially added to Romania after WWI.
The walk starts just outside the front main gate to the old town and takes you across the baroque and Romanesque architecture. The city is well maintained and offers a lot for those seeking culture and entertainment, and that is very much visible as you can see.
