Exercise Cobra Warrior 2022 - Luftwaffe Tornados + Italian AF Eurofighters at RAF Waddington

Exercise Cobra Warrior 2022 - on Tuesday 6th September, the second day of the Cobra Warrior exercises that year, I made a visit to RAF Waddington to try and capture the Luftwaffe Tornados and Italian Air Force Eurofighters in action - and I wasn't disappointed 😀.

Although the weather was decidedly 'iffy', with a strong gusty wind and heavy rain showers, I was pleased to be able to record on film the departure of four of the five Eurofighters + two of the six Tornados. The 'retro' Tornados in particular made a fine sight (and racket 😀) still in action in the 2020s!

**Also included at the start of this compilation - a rare visiting support aircraft for the Sep 2023 exercise in the form of Italian Air Force Gulfstream E-550 CAEW MM62303/14-12 which I just caught departing on the first day of the exercise. Sunnier weather too that year!**

Exercise Cobra Warrior is a biannual exercise, run by the Royal Air Force, designed to exercise participants in high intensity large force tactical training. The second exercise of 2022 took place at RAF Waddington and other airfields between the 5th and 23rd of September, and involved six visiting Luftwaffe Panavia Tornados + five Italian Airforce EF2000 Eurofighters (Typhoons). In addition to the German and Italian aircraft, United States Air Force F-16s which were normally based in Italy operated from their US base at RAF Lakenheath, joined by F-15s and F35As of the 48th Fighter Wing that were also based at RAF Lakenheath, plus the United States Air Force 56th Rescue Squadron HH-60Gs (Combat Search and Rescue) which took part from RAF Leeming.
