Produced and directed by Jack White (1897-1984), “Poppin’ the Cork” was filmed in Astoria, Queens, and released (December 15, 1933) within days of the ratification of the 21st Amendment, ending the increasing unpopular 18th Amendment of January 16, 1919. Jack White was brother to producers Jules White and Sam White. Cast: Milton Berle, Norma Taylor, Mary Cole, Gertrude Mudge, Henry King & His Orchestra, Don Tomkins. At the time of filming, band leader Henry King was performing nightly in the "Grill Neptune" of the Hotel Pierre on Fifth Avenue and East 61st Street. The songs in “Poppin’ the Cork" were written by Benny Davis (words) and James F. Hanley.
