As trains head west of Revelstoke they climb up Eagle Pass on there way up to Taft. The scenery is spectacular including tunnels, lakes and mountains.
Many line changes since the line was built in 1885, significant is the fact the railway ran on the south side of Summit Lake, instead of the current three tunnel arrangement on the north side of the lake.
In the 1920's, the line was raised up off the valley floor and straightened. There was a grade separation from Clanwilliam to a few miles east of Three Valley.
In the 1960's, the double track was removed and CTC applied.
In the 1980's, a new westbound grade between Begbie and Tum Tum was created, finally extended to Clanwilliam.
Traces of the original 1885 grade are visible at a few locations. The grade separation was abandoned in the 1960's and parts are a road to private property. Thanks to Phillip Mason for this information
