Was this one of the most savage Prank of WW1?

Well the story goes that during World War One the Canadians played a brutal trick on the Germans. Cornbeef was commonly included in military rations at the time and the Germans supposedly loved it.

So in Captain Louis Keene’s memoirs, he wrote that the Canadian troops would sometimes throw corned beef into the German Trenches. Initially they’d be cautious of the tin, thinking it was a grenade, with them running away from it.

But eventually, they’d realise it was just corned beef and start eating it. The Canadians would then throw another tin over. They’d then repeat this until loads of Germans were all congregated in the same place and in his words you’d hear “happy voices from enemy trenches shout, “More! Give us More!”.

But instead of lobbing over more corned beef into the Germans trenches, they’d all lob as many grenades as they could
