Pandit Dhananjay Daithankar :
Dhananjay Daithankar’s father, Digamber Daithankar, was a vocalist, and used to do his riyaz (vocal practice) early morning at their Lonavala residence. Seeing his positive response to his father’s riyaz, Daithankar’s mother motivated him to pursue his musical inclination as well. Dhananjay decided to learn the santoor (a trapezoid-shaped flat stringed instrument). He was initiated into classical music by learning tabla from the veteran Pt G.L. Samant in Pune. This was mainly to enable him to master the tala and rhythm of gayaki (the act of singing). He travelled from Lonavala to Pune for 10 years in order to receive training. An active participant in cultural competitions at the school and college level, he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Ayurvedic medicine (BAMS).
In 1977, while pursuing his degree in Ayurvedic medicine, Daithankar made a santoor for himself, inspired by images of the instrument displayed on LP records. He then presented it to eminent santoor player Pt Shivkumar Sharma. Pleased with Daithankar’s creativity and flair for instrumental music, Sharma directed him to receive his initial training from Pt Ratanlal Tikkoo, a disciple of Sharma’s. In 1981, after four years of training under Tikoo, Daithankar finally associated himself again with Pt Shivkumar. Understanding his devotion, hard work and talent, he took him under his tutelage as a disciple and began moulding his musical talent. This was the start of a guru-shishya parampara (teacher-disciple tradition) that lasted for 30 long years.
In the late 1980s, Daithankar received the National Scholarship to pursue training in the santoor. He shared the stage with his mentor and guru Pt Shivkumar Sharma during Rag Ras Rang at Tata Theatre, Mumbai, on October 24, 2008, and in Pune on January 19, 2013, as well as during the Anadi Anant concert organised by the NCPA (National Centre for Performing Arts) and Citi in Mumbai.
Daithankar has captivated audiences with the Banaras gharana style in his recitals. He also renders santoor vadan (recitals) for ballet performances. Notable among his ballet compositions are ‘Sur Shyam Rang’ and a dance ballet based on Swami Vivekanand’s ‘Tejonidhi’. Besides these, he also performs at live concerts and jugalbandis (duets). A graded Doordarshan and All India Radio artist, Daithankar has been awarded the Surmani title by Sur Singar Samsad, Mumbai, Pune Ki Asha Puraskar by the Asha Foundation, and the Dattopant Daithankar Award for a young artist bestowed by the Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav. He has also been felicitated by the Pune Municipal Corporation for his contribution to instrumental music. Over the past three decades, Dhananjay has performed at prominent festivals throughout the world, including in the US, Europe, Singapore, Thailand, and the Middle East. In India, he has performed at the Sawai Gandharva Sangeet Mahotsav, Pune in 1998; Tansen Sangeet Samaroh, Gwalior; NCPA, Mumbai; and for SPIC MACAY concerts at various locations across India.
His wife, Swati Daithankar, is an accomplished Bharatanatyam dancer, and they have composed and choreographed a unique programme of the santoor with Bharatanatyam-themed ’Nupur-Nad’, in which solo performances are presented consequently. It has been received by both music and dance patrons with equal admiration and has travelled to major locations in India and abroad.

Dr.Ravikiran Nakod has received awards at National and international Youth Festival held at Rajasthan University, Jaipur, Banaras Hindu University and International Student Festival, Chandigarh , Pratibha Puraskar by Karnataka University, Dharwad ,'Bharath Rathna Pt.Bhimsen Joshi National Youth Award ' from Karnataka Kala Vikas Parishath .He has been honoured with the title "Tabla Chatur".
