Welcome back to our video series on language structures. This summer series is all about Scarborough's Reading Rope and how to implement the upper stands into your classroom instruction.
I’m Anna DiGilio, and in this video, we will explore how to address homophones in the classroom to strengthen semantics. If you have not watched my first video, “Understanding Semantics,” be sure to go back to that video and watch it. It lays the foundation necessary to dive into these videos that focus on individual activities. Let’s begin!
One important aspect of understanding semantics is understanding the role of homophones in language. Learning about these words can be fun, but it can also be frustrating for students who struggle with general language acquisition. In this video we are going to begin with the basics: What are homophones, and why is it important for teachers to explicitly teach them to our young learners and readers?
If you're looking for a comprehensive, explicit and systematic literacy curriculum that addresses not just Language Structures, but all strands of Scarborough's Reading Rope, I urge you to check out Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E for grades K-4.
Structured Literacy with E.A.S.E. is a tier 1 program with tier 2 support and is aligned to the Science of Reading Research. You can learn more by going to www.structuredliteracy.com
