Echoes of Eureka on Tour: Performance Clips (PEBCC)

The Piedmont East Bay Children's Choir performs Echoes of Eureka by Eric Tuan, a seven-movement choral opera that brings to life the struggles and resilience of Chinese immigrants to 19th-century California. Based on the true story of the Chinese community in the northern California town of Eureka, who were expelled from the town, but fought back by filing the first reparations lawsuit in US history. The opera resonates with contemporary conversations about justice and belonging.

Echoes of Eureka was performed on a tour of Humboldt County, where the events it describes took place, from May 2-4, 2025. Echoes of Eureka is a collaboration with Humboldt Asians and Pacific Islanders in Solidarity, the Eureka Chinatown Project, and Cal Poly Humboldt; poets Emily Jiang and Daryl Ngee Chinn; historians Jean Pfaelzer (author of “Driven Out”) and Alex Service; partner choir Vox Aurea, directed by Sanna Salminen; and choreographer Daniel Raaflaub.
