Featuring experts in school-age chemistry education, this panel introduces and discusses our findings on building students’ interest in chemistry and seeing themselves in a STEM career. There is a careful balance to be struck between subject knowledge, technical skills and transferable skills in order to set students up for future success in further study and their careers. We discuss the RSC’s recommendations across these stages of education and how following them will establish a healthy skills pipeline for the future workforce.
Chair: Mark Jordan (Royal Society of Chemistry)
Panelists: Nikki Kaiser (Notre Dame High School, Norwich, and the Norwich Research School), Kristy Turner (Bolton School and the University of Manchester), and Victoria Thompson (Kilsyth Academy, North Lanarkshire)
This discussion also features a video contribution from Professor Louise Archer (UCL Faculty of Education and Society)
