In this video I show you how to upgrade your motor for Losmandy Mounts to improve the RA Axis for Astrophotography. The opportunity arise for me to upgrade my old Stepper Motor on the Losmandy GM8 to a "new to me" servo motor that the newer (non-Gemini) units use on the GM8 and G11 series.
The overall process of replacement is pretty straight forward but it did require a significant adjustment in PHD2 for the system to track guide stars on the RA because the serve motor "steps" are so much smaller than the stepper motor. So in the end guiding is significantly smoother but the guide commands are far more aggressive to make it work.
