After months of dialing in Metallica’s most legendary tones, I’ve narrowed it down to my absolute favorites—one from each of their classic ‘80s albums. Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, and …And Justice for All each have a distinct sound, and I’ve spent a ridiculous amount of time tweaking, experimenting, and fine-tuning them to get as close as possible. Whether it’s the raw bite of Ride, the refined aggression of Puppets, or the crushing weight of Justice, these are the best tones I’ve created so far. Let’s put them side by side and see how they stack up.
