At a recent seminar discussing bone ischemia and osteonecrosis, Dr. Jerry Bouquot, chair of the Dept. of Diagnostic Service, Univ. of Texas School of Dentistry - Houston and well known oral pathologist, discussed some of the reasons that alveolar bone (jaw bones) are so different from the other skeletal bones. His presentation highlighted the unique bone environment that is often taken for granted or even overlooked in our day to day practice of dentistry.
