《黄河钢琴协奏曲》源自冼星海的《黄河大合唱》。大合唱原创于1939年初抗战时期的延安，作曲家聆听了诗人光未然的朗诵，在6天内完成合唱作品，并以当时能找到的本土乐器伴奏演出。60年代后期，《黄河》的素材经过钢琴家殷承宗等人集体创作，改编为钢琴协奏曲，成为具有文革时期特征的经典。目前演出版本经由 著名民族器乐作曲家瞿春泉改编。。协奏曲分为四个乐章。

第一乐章 :《黄河船夫曲》-- 乐章的主题源自黄河船夫与狂风恶浪搏斗时高喊的号子:“划哟，冲上前!”。 船抵达了彼 岸，乐曲进入一个悠扬舒缓的境地。之后，乐句则在不断升温的情绪中行进，最终以 船夫号子的强音作结。

The Yellow River Yangqin Concerto originates from the Yellow River Cantata composed by Xian Xing Hai at guerilla-controlled Yan-an during World War II in early 1939. Xian Xing Hai composed this piece in 6 days, after listening to a recital by poet Guang Wei Ran, and performed it with any local instruments they could find. In the late 60s, renowned pianist Yin Cheng Zong turned the Yellow River Cantata into a piano concerto and became one of the most representative classics during the period of the Cultural Revolution. The yangqin concerto version was orchestrated for Chinese orchestra by Qu Chun Quan, and consists of four movements.

First movement : The Song of the Yellow River Boatmen - The first movement was inspired from the rigorous chant of the Yellow River boatmen who braved their lives over the wind storms of the river. The music enters a melodious phase as their vessels reach their destination. The movement ends with the rising emotions of the music phrases with strong notes from the boatmen's chant.
