Malcolm Vintage Sniper Competition Mounts - Greek HXP Military .30-06 Ammo in a 1903A1 Springfield

Got some corroded old ammo and plenty of time on a fine summer day - with almost no wind. Time to hit things really far away.
The setup for the day: Malcolm 8X USMC Scope with new competition mounts, Greek surplus .30-06, and a 1903 A1. Best guess, the rounds have a BC of .405 G1 and a velocity of 2700 FPS.

We've had this scope and competition mounts on the rifle before, but it's been a while since they've been used with live ammo. The zero hadn't been moved too far during the last couple tutorial videos, so the focus of the day was on getting used to the ammo and seeing how it shot.

If you're trying to shoot corroded military ammo and can't get the round to chamber or eject properly, a bit of gun oil on the first round may help.

... As it turns out, old ammo isn't remarkably precise. Close enough, though! After boresighting and a few adjustments, Chris hit the bullseye and it was time to move on to 200.
And, for externally adjusting scopes: Whatever direction the turrets spin, just remember that the rear of the scope should be moved in the direction you want the impact to move. If you're hitting low and want your impact to move up, move the back of the scope up. (This moves your point of view down in relation to your last point of aim. Now you need to 'lift' the rifle to bring it back on target. This lifts your point of impact.)

Unlike our usual range, this spot is more level from 100-500 yards. The 300 yard targets were hiding behind the paper target, which really narrowed down the options.

08:48 400 Yds (+7.5)
Another chance to shoot just past the edge of the paper target. Luckily there's very little wind, or else Chris would have to start curving bullets to make them hit.

Finally starting to shoot a bit uphill. Nothing's in the way, and there's a big number "5" to take aim at.

11:45 635 Yds (+16)
Unfortunately, the last of the vintage rounds. Luckily, that coincided with the last target of the run.
