June 10, 2004 - After a standout Game 2 performance in which his late game theatrics induced overtime and ultimately led to 99-91 Lakers victory, Kobe Bryant appeared to slide his foot off the gas pedal in Game 3. Bryant played 44 minutes but shot just 4-of-13 from the field, finishing with 11 points in an 88-68 loss to the Detroit Pistons. The Lakers would never recovery; the Pistons would eliminate L.A. in five games, securing the team's third NBA championship in franchise history.
Game 2 aside, Bryant struggled throughout the 2004 NBA Finals, averaging 22.6 points per game but doing so while shooting just .381 percent from the field and .174 from the 3-point line. Despite his inconsistency, Bryant attempted nearly 30 more shots than the team's leading scorer in the series, Shaquille O'Neal.
