Movement
Inside the steel case ticks the calibre 4R36, which was developed and produced in the typical consistent Seiko way. It was introduced in 2011 and is based on the reliable, cheap and efficient calibre 7S36, which was introduced in 1996, replacing the 7002, which had been around for decades.
Typical for a movement this age, it ticks at a let’s say relaxed rate. And it has a power reserve of about 40 hours. In all, it’s a simple yet very efficient movement.

#Seiko 5
The Seiko 5 was born in 1968 as the successor of the Sportimatic 5. This number refers to 5 specs all watches needed to have: an automatic movement, a day-date complication in a single window, significant water resistance, and a robust steel case and bracelet. The watches come in a sporty diver-like packaging and have always kept its main promise: they’re relatively cheap.

Why I chose it
This watch has a very charming and concious lack of pretence. It shows its strong character in a humble yet colourful way and it delivers exactly on its promise.
This watch knows what it is. And knows what its not.
And that’s what the whole world loves about it. On the wrist it’s just a nice, fun companion, with nothing else to it. The coolest thing about the Seiko 5 is that it leaves room for who you are.
