This is not-finished-but-running scale model of the Fairbanks 3 Cylinder Engine I've been working on since the middle of April, about 6 weeks I guess. The full scale engine had a bore and stroke of 11" x 13". My model is about a 1:14 scale with a bore and stroke of 3/4" x 7/8". It runs on compressed air and is 4 stroke in operation. The camshaft turns at 1/2" the speed of the crankshaft so each cylinder fires every other revolution. The engine crankcase is milled from billet aluminum. The cylinders and heads are made from 12L14 steel. The 4 1/2" diameter flywheels are made up from 3 pieces. The rim is a thin slice of steel tubing, the center portion is aluminum, and the hub is steel. The engine uses standard automotive poppet valves for the compressed air intake and the exhaust is a spring loaded slave valve of my own design. The crankshaft is also built up from drill rod and cold rolled steel. The connecting points are fastened with Loctite and spring pins. Lubrication is provided by hand periodically. The engine will need some final pieces made then will be disassembled and painted. I'll publish another video of the finished engine.
