USB C charging Boards: They run off a t4056 chip that charges lithium cells at 1amp. Some of the boards also have an output where you would power your device and it would shut off power when it got too low. You CAN'T use this function for power tools as they draw way too much and you will cook the board in 1 second. Wire it like I show in the video. There is no low voltage cutoff, so you will have to be smart and know when the tool is low on power. This will be your last sign to charge before you ruin the cells. Honestly you would have to be pretty oblivious to keep pushing it though.


Buy New batteries: If buying new, I would buy a single 21700 cell like the "Samsung 40T" . These are around $6 plus ship from various suppliers online. I wouldn't worry about using 2 18650 cells like I did as it is very tight.


Soldering on Lithium cells: I've done easily 500 cells now and never had a single issue. I have tried to damage them and haven't been able too. I mainly deal with Hi Discharge cells though that are rated to handle high heat. Steps: sand the cell top; soldering iron as hot as possible; rosin flux works fine but takes 2-3 seconds longer; Acid flux(plumbing flux) is super fast but wipe off surface after tinning; use rosin core solder to tin the contact and wire/nickel strip; Solder away. If it takes over 5 seconds to see solder melting/flowing, stop and check your setup.


After Thoughts about the Video: The great thing is Lithium doesn't care when you charge it..... What a fantastic little ratchet. I used it this afternoon on my 1952 Ferguson tractor to remove a starter switch and it was great. I'm happy with the $20 purchase combine with the $2 charging chip and free battery cells.
