The Ballupur-Paonta Sahib highway is a 41-kilometer stretch of NH-72 in Dehradun that is being widened to four lanes:
Purpose
The four-lane highway will improve connectivity between Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Chandigarh, and reduce travel time between Dehradun and Chandigarh.
Width
The highway is currently 10 meters wide and two lanes, but will be widened to 20 meters.
Funding
The central government has sanctioned Rs 1,093 crore for the project.
Timeline
Construction is expected to begin in the next three months and be completed in the next two years.
Benefits
The highway will be beneficial for those who travel to the Paonta Sahib gurdwara and tourists who travel to Asan Barrage.
The highway was originally made a national highway in 2007-08, and then widened to two lanes.
