Printing your Echo Unit’s Tone
Another way of using delay units is to record the 100% wet signal at lowest feedback so that only one repeat occurs. With no dry signal present, you should hear a signal with all the characteristic degradation / frequency loss character but with no actual echo effect. You are using the echo unit in a similar way to an EQ/compressor but are capturing the tone of your echo and any artifacts such as wow/flutter, high/low pass filtering and saturation. Here we have used a vocal from our single ‘Jah Victory’ featuring Luciano, chaining three different delay pedals each adding its own form of sonic degradation, ranging from subtle lo-fi to overdriven crunch.
