Even though we speak out against body shaming, in practice, we often support it in various ways. For example, we tend to treat dark skin as inferior to light skin. Skin whitening creams are in high demand because of this bias. In matrimonial advertisements, fair skin is often seen as an added value. This discrimination based on skin color is called Colorism. It can manifest in various forms, such as preferential treatment for individuals with lighter skin tones or negative stereotypes associated with darker skin tones. Colorism affects individuals' self-esteem and mental health significantly. In this video, Dr. Mary Matilda urges us to stop these practices.
