Happy Waltz Wednesday! The European Waltz is a deceptively simple yet challenging dance from the United States Pre Silver level. When you watch it, it's just three turns and back strokes (or cross roll three turns for the man). What makes it hard is ensuring all of the turns are clean and controlled, as well as the timing, placement of the dance on the ice, and the rise and fall of the knee action. Skaters used to get "stuck" in their testing progression because of the required "solo" as part of the testing requirements for this dance in particular. The test requirements changed, so the solos don't start until the silver level.
