🔥 Watch This Before Buying a GPU for Blender
The most important hardware component affecting render speed in Blender is the graphics card (GPU). With a good GPU, you can render faster and avoid crashes in heavy projects. However, there are a few critical points you must consider before buying a new graphics card.
1️⃣ VRAM Is Extremely Important for Blender
GPU memory (VRAM) plays a huge role in Blender performance. Choosing an older GPU with higher VRAM is often much better than buying a newer GPU with low VRAM. Otherwise, you will likely encounter the “System is out of GPU memory” error.
There is a workaround for this issue by lowering the memory tile size, which allows Blender to render the scene in smaller chunks. However, this significantly increases render time. For large architectural or realistic projects, this may be acceptable, but for fast-paced work and animations, it will slow down your workflow.
2️⃣ GPU Brand Matters (NVIDIA vs AMD)
When it comes to Blender, there are realistically two options: AMD and NVIDIA. NVIDIA is far ahead of its competitors in rendering performance. According to Blender benchmark results, NVIDIA GPUs consistently outperform AMD, while Apple’s processors are currently NVIDIA’s closest competitors.
AMD GPUs unfortunately fall behind in Blender rendering. Additionally, if DLSS support is added to Blender in the future, it will provide a major performance boost — and this technology is exclusive to NVIDIA.
3️⃣ GPU Generation Makes a Big Difference
The release year of a graphics card is very important. Always check the official Blender Open Data benchmark before making a purchase.
For example, even if the RTX 5060 Ti and RTX 4070 Ti have similar prices, the 4070 Ti delivers up to 40% faster render performance.
