Here here’s a way to replace the hydraulic jack spring on your RV if it’s worn out or broken in under four minutes. I'm doing this on my '98 Winnebago Adventurer.
But first I want to apologize that the video quality is so bad. I wanted to get this solution out quickly and move on to fixing other things on the RV.
The biggest problem is stretching the spring out. The overarching idea is to use one long section of aluminum ladder as a lever to stretch out the spring so you can attach it to the jack. So...
1. Slide one section of an aluminum ladder along the ground under the jack
2. Jam one end of the ladder under the bottom curve of the far RV tire
3. Hang the new spring from the jack
4. Lift the ladder up under the new spring while keeping one end jammed under the far tire. The other end will go up in the air. This is the end of your lever.
5. With a carabiner on a chain, hook the carabiner on the end of the spring and loop the chain around a rung on the ladder and back up to the carabiner.
6. Push down on the opposite end of the ladder - the end that is up in the air. You can use your leg while you are fiddling with the spring and jack end. Just lay your leg on top of the ladder and push down.
7. This will stretch the spring down. When it is long enough, connect it to the jack
8. Undo the carabiner, pull out the chain and ladder
9. You are done.
