Woodturning a Spalted Beech Lamp - Part 2

In this video I finish woodturning the lamp body and assemble it before wiring the bulb holder.
I start by woodturning the base, truing the blank and cutting a mortice for the scroll chuck jaws to hold. It's a deep mortice so the cable can be concealed underneath the base. I bored a side hole too for the cable to enter and began an initial shaping of the base. Once I was happy with that I sanded and finished the underside of the base so it could be turned around and mounted on the chuck for final shaping.

The shape I decided to go for was a Roman Ogee profile to give the lamp added hight. I got it to the rough shape i wanted and then cut a mortice for the tenon of the spindle to go into. I then made finishing cuts to smooth the surface prior to sanding and adding finish.

Once the base was fully finished i glued the base and spindle together and left to cure overnight.
When the glue was fully cured I gave the entire lamp a final polish before removing from the lathe and fitting the fixing plate and bulb holder. I fed the cable through the lamp and wired the bulb holder to complete the project.
