DERT’s 50th anniversary celebrated with cultural events & academic showcase

Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui on Friday praised the officials and staff of the Directorate of Educational Research and Training (DERT) for their dedication to strengthening Meghalaya’s education system. Speaking at the launch of DERT’s year-long Golden Jubilee celebration at its campus, he commended the Directorate’s vital role in developing curriculum and teaching materials, training educators, and fostering innovative learning approaches.

Rymbui highlighted DERT’s enduring contribution to improving education quality in the state and urged continued innovation to meet the evolving needs of 21st-century learners. He emphasised that teacher training and pedagogical development remain key pillars in transforming education outcomes across Meghalaya.

The inaugural programme featured a retrospective presentation on DERT’s journey since its establishment in 1976, alongside cultural performances by teacher trainees and the unveiling of the Golden Jubilee logo. The event was attended by senior Education Department officials, including Commissioners and Secretaries Vijay Kumar Mantri and Ryntihlang Rapthap, as Special Guests.

Marking five decades of service under the theme “Honouring the Past, Empowering the Present, and Shaping the Future,” DERT announced a year-long series of academic seminars, workshops, exhibitions, and outreach activities. These initiatives aim to engage educators, students, and institutions across Meghalaya, reinforcing the Directorate’s commitment to advancing teacher education, research, and professional development in the state.
