Gem Lake Express is a Doppelmayr high-speed quad installed in 1996. It is the longest and tallest lift at Big White, over 8,000' long and over 2,000' tall. As a result, the trails are much longer than other parts of the resort, and feature huge variations in environment, from low-lying areas with variable snow conditions to high-alpine areas with deep snowpack. Because of the adverse weather conditions on the upper part of the lift line, a parking rail at the bottom has enough parking to ensure no chairs are on the lift line above the treeline. It should also be noted that Gem Lake Express is the only lift at Big White with a drive in the top terminal.
