'The Man in Black' - originally played by Valentine Dyall in the 1940s and onwards - was British radio's own version of the various hosts of horror anthology to be heard on US radio. A very successful creation, he was eventually revived in the late 1980s to present a new anthology series, 'Fear on 4'. Sadly, Valentine Dyall died just before the new series went into production, and his shoes had to be filled by Edward De Souza - though De Souza does do an extremely good job. Fear on 4 ran for several series, with new episodes appearing under the banner (though by that time, without the Man in Black presenting) as late as 1997.
