The Horus Heresy stands as the first and most devastating civil war in the history of the Imperium of Man. It was a conflict that tore the galaxy asunder, pitting brother against brother, Primarch against Emperor, and Legion against Legion. Fully half of the Emperor’s demigod sons—the Primarchs—along with their Space Marine Legions, mortal auxilia, and even the once-loyal priests of the Mechanicum, turned against the Master of Mankind. It was a time of fratricide, of betrayal and fire, when the galaxy drowned in the blood of its own champions.
But why did Horus, the Emperor’s favored son, the Warmaster of the Great Crusade, rise in rebellion? This was no ordinary general. Horus was the paragon of his brothers, first among equals, who commanded not just loyalty but admiration. He was a strategist without peer, a leader who fought with brilliance and compassion, sparing lives whenever possible. Together with the Emperor, Horus had fought countless wars, crushed alien tyrannies, and forged humanity into an empire destined to span the stars.
To Horus, the Emperor was not only a father but also a brother-in-arms. They bled together, laughed together, and envisioned the same future. So why would such a son betray his father? Was it because the Emperor abandoned the Primarchs and their Legions, retreating to Terra to build a secret project among mere mortals? Was it because the countless soldiers who died for the Imperial Truth were given no honor, no remembrance? Or was it the whisper of the gods of the Warp—the Ruinous Powers—that finally turned Horus against the father he once adored?
