In this example, we want to control the punching shear ratio in the shear walls in an approximate way. To do this, we must define an equivalent column similar to the section of the shear wall Also, the bending and axial stiffness properties of the equivalent column should be similar to the shear wall. Then, under the wall and above the equivalent column, we must define a very stiff beam. Finally, we analyze the model and export to SAFE software.In SAFE, we also define and assign the basic specifications necessary for the analysis and design of the foundation, and since our overall goal is to determine the punching shear ratio by the SAFE, other parameters are not important at the moment. Finally, you will see that because the wall cross-section was meshed in ETABS, the punching shear ratio for those walls was not calculated in SAFE. For the equivalent column, we must also enter the size of the load for loads that enter from above, similar to steel structures.
