Solung is a widely recognized festival name, much like Assamese Bihu, which includes Mag Bihu and Bohag Bihu. In the Adi tradition, we celebrate Luːtor Solung and Luːné Solung. According to the Aːbang, these festivals were gifted to the Éngo-Takar people by Siking Koːje Naːné (Kiːné Naːné). The Aːbang narrates:
“Siking Koːje Naːné ké Gíːdí oboé duːpor binamé Siking Kiːran Ranné ko, Siking Kiːlung é Luːtor kolang Luːné.”
Unfortunately, some people innocently misinterpret the Solung festival as referring to a herd of mithun. While Solung can indeed mean a herd of mithun in a different context, it has no direct relation to the Solung festival itself.
