Kitzbuhel (KitzSki) Ski Resort - Is it worth it?

Join us for a video tour of Kitzbuhel (KitzSki) Ski Resort. In this video, we show all of the lifts, the terrain they serve, and the scenery! Kitzbuhel is a massive ski resort - one of the 10 largest in the world! Kitzbuhel has 233 kilometers of slopes, and 41 kilometers of ski routes of easy family ski runs (pistes). Kitzbühel offers a variety of terrain, including 69 kilometers of easy family runs, 77 kilometers of intermediate runs, and 24 kilometers of difficult runs (pistes). Kitzbühel has 58 gondolas and lifts. There are also 10 free practice lifts in the valley. There's also a terrain park for enthusiasts. The Streif piste hosts the World Cup downhill ski racing, which is considered the equivalent of the Grand National horse race in the UK! The resort is located between the Kitzbüheler Horn and the Hahnenkamm, and spans seven districts and two federal states. The resort has many ski lodges and restaurants, and a free ski bus for skiers with a valid lift pass.

We stayed in Kirchberg rather than Kitzbuhel proper. Kirchberg offered more affordable lodging and dining than did Kitzbuhel itself. We did visit the town of Kitzbuhel during our visit, but both Carmelita and I preferred the laid back atmosphere of Kirchberg better than the busier, more upscale Kitzbühel.

There are three primary ski areas in Kitzbuhel. Kirchberg - Kitzbuhel, Pass Thurn - Jochberg, and the Kitzbuehler horn. All three areas are interconnected by lifts, but the public bus transportation is a faster way to reach the farther ends of the resorts. For perspective, when I finished skiing the Pass Thurn - Jockberg section, it took me an hour on the buss to get back to Kirchberg!

Part 1 of the Kitzbuhel (KitzSki) Video Tour includes the 18 primary lifts, the terrain they serve and the scenery in the Kitzbühel-Kirchberg area. We flew into Austria's Salzburg airport and took a taxi van to Kirchberg, where we stayed at the Hotel Bechlwirt. If you plan to visit and take a taxi, be sure to learn to pronounce the two towns in local dialect so as to avoid confusion with the taxi driver. Kitzbühel (Pronounced Kitz BOoooL in English) and Kirchberg (Prounounded Keerburg in English).

KitzSki refers to the ski area as probably the "most legendary ski area in the world."

The entire KitzSki area is massive spanning seven districts and two federal states (Tirol + Salzburg). This includes the towns of: Kitzbühel, Reith, Aurach, Jochberg, Pass Thurn-Mittersill, Hollersbach along with Kirchberg and Aschau in Spertental.

The entire ski area is well-served with public transportation (included free with hotel stay and ski pass)

We visited Austria's KitzSki area January 29th - February 29th, 2024, during an unusually warm period (highs reaching 50 degrees F; 10 degrees C), and the snowpack was the lightest in years. KitzSki does do an amazing job though maintaining skiing all the way to the valley floors with snowmaking.
