Opening of Texas Instruments SM1 fab at Sherman, Texas

On 16th December 2025, Texas Instruments (TI) officially opened its state-of-the-art 300mm semiconductir fab, SM1, at Sherman, Texas. In their official announcement, the company's president and CEO, Haviv Ilan, said, ""The start of production at our newest wafer fab in Sherman, TX represents what TI does best: owning every part of the manufacturing process to deliver the foundational semiconductors that are vital for nearly every type of electronic system. As the largest analog and embedded processing semiconductor manufacturer in the U.S., TI is uniquely positioned to provide dependable 300mm semiconductor manufacturing capacity at scale. We're proud to have called North Texas home for nearly a century, and excited about how TI technology will enable the technological breakthroughs of the future."

TI’s mega-site in Sherman includes future plans for up to four connected wafer fabs that will be constructed and equipped in alignment with market demand. Combined, this site will support as many as 3,000 direct jobs, along with thousands of additional jobs in support industries. TI’s investment in Sherman is part of the company’s broader plans to invest more than $60 billion across seven semiconductor fabs in Texas and Utah.

In order to learn more about the new SM1 fab and the wider context of what this means for TO and the US, EE Times' Nitin Dahad spoke to Mohammad Yunus, Senior Vice President, Technology and Manufacturing at Texas Instruments, in front of the SM1 clean room.
