Everyone’s talking about a possible AI apocalypse — but what if evolutionary biology already wrote the script?
Before the first cells could leave their "cradle of life", they had to gain something called autopoiesis: the ability to self-maintain and sustain themselves without constant outside help. Without it, evolution would have stalled.
This video explores what origin of life research can tell us (via analogy) about the possible future of artificial intelligence, and why fears of rogue AI, superintelligence, and machine uprisings might be missing a critical step.
Could AI actually achieve its own version of autopoiesis? Or will it stay locked in its cradle, dependent on us forever?
