Barangay Datu Amilhamja Jaafar came to its name when Municipality of Sibutu was created and separated from Sitangkai Municipality, Province of Tawi-Tawi.
Formerly it was popularly called PASAGIH, which means rectangle in terms of shape and it also means lumber. It is called so because of the old days, the area was once a place for building wood boats, pumpboats and other sea-related transportation.
