Join Dave from Military Antiques Toronto as he dives into a stunning new arrival — a massive and incredibly diverse collection of antique bayonets that just came through the shop door! This 15-minute walkthrough covers everything from rare World War I and World War II bayonets to obscure international blades and modern military surplus. If you’re into militaria, antique weapons, or historical blades, this video is a must-watch 🎯

Dave begins on the left side of the counter with a 1970-dated bayonet complete with scabbard, likely once issued with the original weapon, a classic example of military surplus now becoming harder to find. He follows it up with what appears to be an original copper powder flask, possibly 19th century, though moisture damage has turned the remaining powder into a solid block.

From there, Dave showcases a U.S. M6 bayonet with an M8 scabbard manufactured by Imperial, a highly collectible Cold War-era piece. He compares it to an M7 bayonet and several others, noting how poor storage in basements and attics has affected the condition of many of these blades 😔

The collection also includes a 1917 Remington Enfield bayonet marked U.S., a piece that has clearly seen decades of improper storage but still retains its military character. Another gem is a Swiss or possibly Swedish pioneer bayonet, featuring a unique wide blade profile that stands out from standard infantry models. As Dave discusses this one, he emphasizes the importance of preserving originality in antique military blades.

Several French bayonets make their way to the counter, most suffering from extensive oxidation due to improper storage practices. These pieces illustrate how military artifacts can deteriorate quickly without the right conditions. Despite the corrosion, each blade tells a story of its origin, function, and eventual neglect.

Next up is a sharpened Ross Rifle bayonet, marked Number 7 Mark IV. Ross bayonets were standard issue for Canadian troops and are highly collectible today, even when modified. Unfortunately, the excessive sharpening on this one has altered its profile, reducing its collector value.

Dave then examines a pair of British 1907 bayonets, both heavily modified. The blades have been plated, and the grips replaced or damaged. Double broad arrow markings suggest these were once government property, possibly later decommissioned and sold off. The conversation pivots to how enthusiasts sometimes unintentionally devalue rare military pieces by over-cleaning or modifying them 🔧

Another bayonet from France arrives in a decent scabbard but suffers from severe blade oxidation. Dave uses it as an example to explain why proper care and storage are essential for maintaining blade integrity. These observations are echoed when he discusses a Schmidt Rubin Swiss bayonet — beautiful in form but damaged from water exposure and improper handling.
