Government Brings Development Schemes to Grassroots With Fodder Production Initiative at Kaksar (LOC)
In Ladakh, in a significant step toward strengthening development in border areas, the Sheep Husbandry Department Kargil today launched a Community Land Development for Fodder Production initiative at Nawo Phayo Kaksar, one of the forward villages located along the Line of Control (LOC). The project is funded under the National Livestock Mission of the Ministry of Animal Husbandry, Dairying & Fisheries, Government of India.
The programme reflects the Government’s efforts to ensure that welfare schemes and development benefits reach the grassroots level, including remote and strategically important border regions.
EC LAHDC Kargil Aga Syed Mujtaba Mossavi, the Chief Guest, said the initiative demonstrates the administration’s commitment to uplifting rural communities, especially those in challenging terrains. He added that such schemes promote sustainable development, enhance livestock and dairy production, and create opportunities for employment and entrepreneurship within villages.
EC Punchok Tashi, the Guest of Honour, and other technical experts highlighted the importance of sustainable rural development and appreciated the active participation of the local community.
During the event, progressive farmers of Kaksar received fencing materials, high-quality alfalfa seeds, organic manure, and agricultural implements to support community fodder cultivation.
District Sheep Husbandry Officer Dr. Niyaz-ul-Hassanin briefed villagers about departmental schemes and shared the vision of transforming Kaksar into a potential hub for Pashmina rearing and livestock development. He pointed out that the current component allocation under the scheme remains limited for remote regions like Kaksar and Zanskar, where labour costs are high and resources scarce. He assured that the matter has been taken up with higher authorities for enhanced support.
A large number of men and women from Kaksar village participated in the programme and expressed gratitude for bringing such beneficial schemes to their border community.
