On 14th January 2026, the Indian Coast Guard carried out a major security operation near the coast of Porbandar in Gujarat to stop an illegal entry by a Pakistani boat. The boat was detected close to the International Maritime Boundary Line (IMBL) in the Arabian Sea, a highly sensitive area known for past smuggling activities and border tensions.
The operation began when the Indian Coast Guard’s advanced surveillance systems and aircraft noticed a suspicious boat moving from the Pakistani side toward Indian waters. The boat was not displaying standard fishing signals and its movement pattern immediately raised concern among security forces.
After identifying the threat, the Coast Guard deployed fast patrol ships to intercept the vessel. On spotting Indian authorities, the Pakistani boat tried to escape and move back toward international waters. However, the Indian ships were quicker and managed to surround the boat before it could leave the area.
The intercepted boat was identified as Al-Madina. During the search, officials found nine crew members on board. None of them were able to clearly explain why they had crossed into Indian maritime territory.
Security agencies carried out checks on the boat for illegal items such as drugs or weapons, which are often smuggled through this sea route. The vessel and its crew were then taken to Porbandar port for further questioning and detailed investigation by intelligence agencies.
This operation is being seen as a major success for Indian maritime security. Authorities are now questioning the crew to determine whether they are linked to a larger criminal network or had other intentions. The Porbandar coastal region continues to remain under close surveillance.
