Description: Julie Clark, author and former Bureau of Land Management Park Ranger for the Reserve, and Jamie Roscoe, local Archeologist, will speak to the 2000 Field Archeological study of the once-busy historic mill town of Falk (2023 National Register
Historic District) within the Headwaters Forest Reserve. The talk will focus on the Archeological Inventory of Falk as well as the critical importance of oral history integrating a larger picture and understanding of how the town of Falk fits into the larger
picture of Humboldt County history. Hosted by the Humboldt County Historical Society Free Lecture Series and the Clarke Museum.


Julie Clark Bio: Julie Clark is a Public Affairs Officer for the USFS. For over two decades she worked as a Park Ranger for the Bureau of Land Management, extensively at the Headwaters Forest Reserve. She graduated from Humboldt State University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Arts in art education and minor in history. She received her Master of Arts degree in Social Science, Teaching American History from Humboldt State University. Her thesis was titled “Company Towns in the American West”.  She is the author of two local history books, Images of America series, titled “Falk: Lumber Company Town of the American West” and “The Lighthouses of Humboldt County.”


James Roscoe Bio: James Roscoe conducted an archaeological field study and inventory of Falk with Humboldt State University (HSU), now Cal Poly Humboldt, in 2000, leading to the site’s 2023 listing on the National Register of Historic Places. James was born and raised in Humboldt County, graduated from Eureka High School, and completed his BA in history at HSU.  He has worked as an archaeologist in the North Coast for more than 45 years and has extensive knowledge of the prehistory and history of Northern California.
