Vision System for High Speed Medical Device Inspection

In this system Industrial Vision Systems have integrated three high resolution digital cameras, combined with LED lighting to provide inspection of the end face of a medical device brush at speed. This system is a final inspection cell for a medical devices supplier to confirm key measurements and formation of the brush is correct as part of the final inspection process prior to despatch. The machine includes a bowl feed mechanism to feed the parts at a rate of up to 100 parts per minute. The digital cameras utilize a prism system within the inspection area to view the complete brush from 360 degrees. The angled LED ring light unit provides direct light from above allowing all three cameras to be triggered simultaneously when the part is in front of the cameras.

The complete vision system is shrouded in a main inspection area with the parts being automatically rejected, accepted or sent to the rework bins depending on the results from the vision system. The PLC and control cabinet is housed at the rear of the machine.

The complete vision system check routine was easily created in the standard graphical interface with the process views and control panel views using standard graphical elements available.
