This video asks four key questions that can improve your line and wash watercolour sketches:
HOW CAN I FIND THE RIGHT REFERENCE?
WHERE DO I START?
HOW CAN I CONVERT THE INITIAL SKETCH INTO A MORE ARTISTIC DRAWING?
HOW MANY COLOURS DO I NEED?
Answering about questions are important for beginners to improve their line and wash art skills. The video provides answers to the above questions:
HOW CAN I FIND THE RIGHT REFERENCE? - Complex references are more appropriate for line and wash art. This may sound counterintuitive. However, complex references can give you a lot of lines to draw, making it easy to do a lot of line work.
WHERE DO I START? - Start with a simple shape in the middle of the object and build the rest around it. Draw the main shapes first and then fill in the details.
HOW CAN I CONVERT THE INITIAL SKETCH INTO A MORE ARTISTIC DRAWING? - Fill in the shades using short repetitive lines. This will improve the quality of your sketch.
HOW MANY COLOURS DO I NEED? - I strongly recommend a limited colour palette. Use a few compatible colours. Avoid primary colours. Mix a few colours and find an appropriate colour combination.

The reference I am using is an old barn, which may seem a complex reference to draw. However, it is very easy reference once you have initial shapes in place.
