Speaking Skill Activities - ESL for Marketing Students

You might find it interesting, as I have, that a lot of my current students have been requesting that we focus our Business English lessons primarily on MARKETING skills. In fact, I've started referring to these sessions as "Marketing Lessons."

It appears that digital marketing has become a common thread among the people I interact with. With the rise of remote work, I've noticed my students taking on diverse roles in the online marketing world, including positions like copywriters, media buyers, affiliate marketers, mini influencers, and marketing managers, among others.

Having a solid background in Marketing myself, and having worked in affiliate marketing, copywriting, neuromarketing, and more as side projects for quite some time, I've developed numerous activities that not only improve their English proficiency but also help them with their marketing abilities.

These activities are engaging and adaptable to general lessons while also fostering critical thinking skills in your students.

1. Guess the Brand: In this game, we think about what makes a brand special, not just its logo or slogan. It's a fun way to talk about what we feel and see about a brand, using English to describe it without saying its name.

2. Find the Leader: This is about figuring out which companies are the best in what they do. We talk about why some brands are more popular and what makes them stand out, using simple English. It's a good way to practice speaking and thinking.

3. The phases of Brand Experience: Here, we chat about the steps a brand takes to make people like it, from when they first hear about it to when they really love it. We think about how each step can be better, using easy English.

4. How Can Your Brand Stand Out?: We brainstorm cool ideas to make a brand really special and different. We use our own stories and thoughts to come up with ways a brand can be more exclusive, and we practice saying these ideas in English.

5. Band Ambassador Analysis: Picking the right famous person to help show off a brand is important. We talk about how to pick the best one and what could happen if they choose wrong, all in simple English.
