Even as the New Year has passed and January is halfway through, the heavy rush of devotees at Puri’s Srimandir shows no signs of easing. After Saturday, massive crowds were again witnessed on Sunday, with barricades overflowing and queues stretching up to Marichikot Chhak. Devotees are questioning why Lord Jagannath’s darshan is becoming increasingly difficult day by day. Officials cite a sudden surge of pilgrims along with frequent ritual disruptions and delays as the main reasons. Sevayats have also admitted that any delay in opening temple gates in the morning leads to ritual delays throughout the day. Calls are growing for the administration to act swiftly against those causing disruptions. Meanwhile, the Srimandir administration has assured that greater attention is being given to crowd and ritual management, as stated by the Chief Administrator on Saturday.
