Au cours d’histoir’-géographie
Ce matin le prof a promis
Que notre Terre peut nourrir

Ce soir devant le magasin
Le vieil homme a marqué « J’ai faim »
J’ai pensé tout bas mes amis,
« Pardon, j’ai pas bien compris ! »

Ils sont partis vers l’aventure
Ils rêvaient si bien d’ouvertur’
« La différence c’est parfait,
Ça mène loin », qu’ils nous disaient.

À la terrasse du café
Le jeune homme a tout fait sauter
Pour aller vers son paradis,
« Pardon, j’ai pas bien compris !

On le sait bien depuis longtemps
Les montagnes bleues de l’argent
Qu’on escalade avec ardeur
Ne mènent pas vers le bonheur.

Pourtant le soir vous travaillez
Vous rentrez tard ils sont couchés
Vos enfants bientôt repartis,
« Pardon, j’ai pas bien compris !

Un jour on naît, un jour on part
Une étoile dans le brouillard
On marche ensemble toi et moi
Ça rime à quoi si tu t’en vas ?

J’ai demandé à grand-maman
Qui connaît les secrets du temps
En pliant l’oreille elle a dit,
« Pardon, j’ai pas bien compris !

In history and geography class
This morning, the teacher promised us
That our Earth could feed
The whole world, it must be said.

This evening, in front of the store,
The old man had a sign that said, “I’m hungry,”
I thought to myself, friends,
“Pardon me, I don’t quite understand!”

They left for adventure,
They dreamed of openness,
“Being different is perfect,
It will lead us far,” they told us.

At the terrace of a café
The young man blew everything up
So he could go to his heaven,
“Pardon me, I don’t quite understand!”

We’ve known for a long time
That the mountains, blue with money,
That we climb with such ardour,
Do not lead to happiness.
And yet, in the evenings, you work,
You come home late, and they’ve gone to bed,
Your children will soon be grown,

One day we’re born, one day we leave,
