The Wreck of the Titanic

’Twas on one Sunday morning,
Just about the hour of three,
When the great Titanic struck an iceberg
And soon began to sink beneath the sea.

The passengers were sleeping,
None dreaming of the dread alarm,
When the great ship struck the iceberg,
Causing death and great harm.

Then up spoke Captain Smith,
With a firm and a steady voice,
“Be British, boys! Be brave, be calm,
Let women and children first have choice.”

The lifeboats were lowered,
The women and children went;
But many a brave man stayed behind,
His life on earth was spent.

The band was playing sweet music,
As they stood upon the deck,
While tears from every eye did flow
For those about to wreck.

Some clung to wives and sweethearts,
Until the sea did them part;
Others clasped their children dear,
While anguish filled each heart.

The cries of the drowning echoed,
Across the ocean wide,
Till the good ship Carpathia came
To take the living on board.

Now many are sleeping in the deep,
Their bodies never found;
But their souls have gone to Heaven,
Where peace and rest abound.

No pen can write, no tongue can tell,
The sorrow and the pain,
Of those who lost their loved ones
And never saw them again.

So let us not forget them,
Though they’re beneath the wave,
The heroes of the Titanic—
The faithful and the brave.
