Dunfermline - Scotland's New City

A look at Dunfermline, an ancient capital of Scotland whose roots lie at the very heart of Scotland's past, and which has now been awarded the status of city.
Burial place of Scottish kings and a major pilgrimage destination for those wishing to visit the shrine of Saint Margaret, Dunfermline deserves the title of 'city' more than any other place in Scotland. It's ancient abbey houses the tomb of King Robert the Bruce and is the final resting place of 7 other Scottish kings. Once the capital of Scotland, Dunfermline became the burial place of Scotland's kings after Iona was sacked by Vikings. There is no more important place in the whole country than Dunfermline.
In this video we look at the grave of Lady Margaret Crawford, who was the mother of Sir William Wallace, and at the remains of the abbey.
Bruce's body, the exact location of which was not known within the abbey church, was rediscovered during rebuilding in the early nineteenth century. At that time a cast was taken of the skull which in more recent times has been used to reconstruct the face of King Robert the Bruce.
We also visit the shrine of Saint Margaret, and discover an ancient holy relic housed in a church in East Port.
