It is the beginning of January and two things are happening on the Welland Canal.
One, the canal is days away from closing for the winter and two, the Ice is thickening.
On this video, I stand and wait patiently for a very slow moving Algoma Great Lakes Freighter to arrive in Port Colborne from Lake Erie and make it's way to the entrance of the Welland Canal for the last time this season.
Algoma Strongfield is the vessel and she looked very impressive in the ice and we even got to hear a very heavy bass tone salute from her horn as she approached the lift Bridge.
