Steam in the Sub-Continent
During the 1990s, World of Steam released a series of VHS programmes featuring steam locomotives working in India and Pakistan. That material is now again available, in digitally re-mastered and re-edited form, and this programme records railways in the Sub-Continent as they really were. Forget about special trains, run pasts and helicopters, just sit back and remember the way it was! We visit:
In India:
Udaipur (1990) to see YP Pacifics performing on the Ahmadabad line of the Western Railway metre-gauge system;Ootacamund (1990) to view the rack tanks at work, including footage taken on the northern (gravity adhesion) section.Dabhoi (1990) for ZBs on the extensive 2’ 6“ gauge system.
In Pakistan:
Malakwal (1990) to see SPS and SGS steam locos working on the broad-gauge secondary lines
Mirpur Khas (1987 and 1993) to view steam activity on the country’s only metre-gauge system;
Bostan to Zhob (1987) for rare footage of steam working on this interesting 2’ 6” gauge line;
Changa Manga (1993) [not included in Sampler] to see 2’ 6” steam working on the forestry system.
Please note that most of the footage featured in this production has previously appeared in World of Steam VHS productions. It has been digitally re-mastered and re-edited, and is designed to be viewed in 4:3 aspect ratio.
